The Cinema Verite Festival is a special importance not only in Iran but also in the neighboring countries and the Middle East in particular.  Documentary cinema has elements that cannot be found anywhere.  Documentaries and realism are becoming more and more important as they have the power to teach. Documentaries are a profound and informative resource that provide a good platform for dialogue. They act as a powerful tool to bring important issues to the table in a deceptive way that sparks conversation and sometimes even social movements. Documentaries can be a very effective way to introduce new topics and achieve specific themes. They allow you to have a "complete broad" knowledge base, not just specialize in one thing. In addition, Cinema Verite can offer shared and unique experiences when videos, views, ideas are shared with people. The Cinema Verite is also considered as a vital link in the global film culture chain that encourages a wide and diverse range of perspectives.  It has been teaching its audience to talk about difficult topics for years and in this way it can continue growth of enthusiasts in this field continues The Cinema Verite is now an exceptional tool to communicate from the farthest corners of Iran or even the farthest place in the world. The festival is working hard to expand its programming scope to attract a diverse audience of films. It makes every effort to support new facts and documentaries and to provide the best possible platform for them Obviously, this is different and more worthy from the glamorous red carpet and fashion festivals, which will probably remain in our nostalgic golden past. ]]> The 14th Festival Sun, 27 Dec 2020 05:21:00 GMT http://old.irandocfest.ir/en/news/8545/iran-s-cinema-verite-enjoys-special-place-in-world Hamidi-Moqaddam: Theatrical justice best achievement of Cinema Verite http://old.irandocfest.ir/en/news/8544/hamidi-moqaddam-theatrical-justice-best-achievement-of-cinema-verite Talking to IRIB News channel, Mohammad Hamidi-Moqaddam underlined that following the outbreak of Coronavirus all over the world, most festivals were either canceled to postpone under further notice.   After holding talks with officials at the Development of Documentary and Experimental Cinema, as the custodian of this event, we discussed holding the festival in an online format. He added that after the deadline for submitting the work to the secretariat, over 894 films were reached to the secretariat of the festival, which shocked us, then we became determined to hold the 14th edition of the festival with strong power.  Commenting on the festival's workshop, he said some 300 - 500 students took part in the workshops on a daily basis in the two-hour workshops, which is a high number for documentary cinema. At the same time, our audience followed the programs on different platforms and systems, and all the statistics should be aggregated. The celebration and the wedding had 500 regular viewers, which is why I say we have increased the audience. "I think documentary cinema enjoys vast potential in Iran," he said. Referring to the lack of historical, scientific, sports, and political cinematic productions, he said: "The general view of documentaries in Iran is social."  "I have asked my colleagues to pave the way for producing new works in the fields of wildlife, sports as well as historical films," he said. He concluded by saying that documentary cinema is important for the country. This cinema needs support. In the meantime, the "53 Coup" documentary has been chosen as the most popular film of the festival. The film depicts the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, known in Iran as the 28 Mordad coup d'état. At the closing ceremony of the festival, Head of Cinema Organization of Iran Hossein Entezami appreciated all filmmakers, who attended the 14th edition of Iran's Cinema Verite, for having confidence in online screening due to the pandemic. In August 1953, the British intelligence agency and its American counterpart, the CIA, initiated the coup by the Iranian military, setting off a series of events, including riots on the streets of the capital Tehran, which led to the overthrow and arrest of Iran’s first democratically-elected government of Mohammad Mosaddeq. The coup, which was followed by the temporary rule of CIA- and MI6-approved General Fazlollah Zahedi, enabled the monarch, Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi’s return from exile in Italy. It also consolidated the monarch's rule for the following 26 years until the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979, led by Imam Khomeini, which toppled the Pahlavi regime. Mosaddeq, who was convicted of treason by a court-martial after the coup, served three years in solitary confinement and eventually died under house arrest in exile in 1967. The historic overthrow, though, is still given as a reason for the Iranians' mistrust of the UK and the US. The 14th Iran International Documentary Film Festival opened in Tehran on Tuesday. At the ceremony, the senior cinematic official hailed those who were in charge of holding the festival as they did well to "keep the light of the festivals on." Further, Entezami appreciated the juries and all who helped hold the festival well. Organizing virtual festival due to the pandemic was a serious risk taken by those who were in charge of holding Cinema Verite fest; they took the risk to not let the light of festivals be turned off, Entezami noted.   He highlighted the key role of festivals in identifying skills and capabilities. Speaking about the present critical conditions caused after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide, Entezami said the pandemic created an opportunity to make use of capacities; the capacities which could not be seen in the pre-pandemic era. The conditions led to "convergence between art and industry," he noted. At the end of his remarks, Entezami said that this style of holding festivals can continue in the post-pandemic era. Due to the coronavirus pandemic which has killed over 1,720,000 worldwide since its outbreak a year ago, 14th Iran International Documentary Film Festival “Cinema Verite" like many other world events and gatherings is being held virtually. Many foreign documentarians and cinematographers have held master classes and workshops at the festival. Mohammad Hamidi Moqaddam was the secretary of the international event. Our great joy is that in these circumstances he was able to enter the homes of many Iranians and invite them to see and think about a part of himself. We are also pleased to see the search process and the survival of Iranian documentary cinema. Is it possible to imagine a country that is a midwife of culture and art without a dynamic and progressive documentary cinema? Isn't documentary cinema a human possibility to confront us and our world with hidden or marginalized assumptions? Isn't documentary cinema a possibility to reveal the denied human truth or even the denied truth of a person? Because this cinema is a human cinema in which people find a voice with their first name and individual identity. For decades, Iranian documentary cinema has played a role in keeping the light of questioning and existentialism on in this land. With the idea that making a documentary is a practice towards the following consciousness because consciousness is an action that can itself change the subject of consciousness. With all the ups and downs behind the centuries and ages, the light of truth has never been extinguished in this land. Truth is a question, not a certain and predetermined knowledge. Long live Iranian documentary cinema. Long live the Iranian documentary filmmakers.     ]]> The 14th Festival Wed, 23 Dec 2020 17:07:17 GMT http://old.irandocfest.ir/en/news/8506/jury-members-of-cinema-verite-announces-a-statement "Cinema Verite” announced winners http://old.irandocfest.ir/en/news/8504/cinema-verite-announced-winners **National Competition Section **Best Short Documentary's Director: - "Brother From the Barrens" by Ali Assadi, Rasoul Davari **Best Semi-Length Documentary's Director: - "Kal Fatemeh" by Mahdi Zamanpour Kiasari **Best Feature-Length Documentaries' Director: -"Fill in the Blanks" by Atiyeh Zare Arandi **Best Researcher: - "Iranian Animation" by Mehrdad Sheikhan **Best Cameraman: - "Kal Fatemeh" by Davood Rahmani **Best Sound: -"Dry Pond Dragonfly", Arash Qasemi (Sound Design) **Best Edit: -"Houbara", Mostafa Gandomkar, Sogol Moradi **Best Narration Writing: -"Taher", Narration Writer: Amir Masoud Hosseini, Narrator: Siamak Safari **Best Music: -"Last Breathes", Kiavosh Saheb Nasaq **Best Producer: - " Fill in the Blanks", Atiyeh Zareh Avandi **Special Award of Jury Boards: -"On the Ground" by Mohsen Khan Jahani   ** Avini Award Section **Bronze trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and the cash prize of 180 million Rials is awarded to "Ali Mohammad Zolfaghari" the director of "Ramadi Report". **Silver trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and the cash prize of 200 million Rials is awarded to "Hassan Jafari " the director of "Immigrant Swallows". **Golden trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and the cash prize of 220 million Rials are awarded to “Mahdi Shah Mohammadi” director of “"Eighteen Thousand Feet". **The Special Jury Awards went to "Fish Island" by Reza Azamian and "Japanese Mohsen" by Vahid Faraji ** The Special Jury Award of Iran's Martyred Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani  went to Sasan Falahfar for "Iranian Eye" **Entrepreneurship Documentary Section -Third Prize went to "It Is Raining Under This Umbrella" by Katayoun Jahangiri -Second Prize went to "F-A" by Farshad Ektebashi -First Prize went to "The Unfinished Way" by Asqar Qandzchi , Mostafa Razaq Karimi The jury board also awarded Sohrab Nourbakhsh for "Little Creators".
